Byron Nelson honored with bronze

The United States Mint announced that bronze duplicates and miniature bronze replicas of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring the late golf champion Byron Nelson were available beginning at noon on Thursday, April 26.

The United States Mint announced that bronze duplicates and miniature bronze replicas of the Congressional Gold Medal honoring the late golf champion Byron Nelson were available beginning at noon on Thursday, April 26, at www.usmint.gov.

The congressional gold medal will be awarded at a later date to the golfer?s widow, Peggy Nelson, in recognition of Byron Nelson?s significant contributions to the game of golf as a player, a teacher, and a commentator.
The obverse design, by U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver Norman Nemeth, features a portrait of Byron Nelson with the inscriptions ?Byron Nelson 1912-2006? and ?Act of Congress 2006.?

The reverse design, by U.S. Mint sculptor-engraver Don Everhart, depicts a younger Nelson, with the inscriptions, ?Player, Teacher, Humanitarian? and ?Champion.?

Duplicate three-inch bronze medals are available from the Mint for $38.00, and the 1-1/2 inch miniature bronze replicas of the large medal are available for $3.75.
