A kickoff ceremony for the Dolley Madison First Spouse gold coin was held Nov. 19 in the East Room of the White House.

Just hours before the fourth First Spouse design went on sale on the Mint?s Web site, First Lady Laura Bush was joined by Mint Director Ed Moy and Dolley Madison re-enactor Lucinda Frailly of Canton, Ohio.

?America?s First Ladies have guided, comforted and sustained our nation in times of trial and triumph,? said Mrs. Bush. ?At the same time, they?ve fulfilled their other very important role ? and that is wife of the President of the United States.?

Designs for the next four First Spouse coins to be issued in 2008 were put on display at the ceremony. They are Elizabeth Monroe, Louisa Adams, a Liberty design for Andrew Jackson and another one for Martin Van Buren.
?This is the first time in American history that women are featured on a consecutive series of coins,? Moy noted.

The Dolley Madison First Spouse gold coins did not sell out on the first day they became available. Check the Mint Web site for more information at www.usmint.gov. Issue price for the proof version is $529.95, up $100 from prior issues. The uncirculated is $509.95, up $99. The Mint may also be reached by telephoning (800) USA-MINT.
