Buffalo gold order limit lifted

A new individual order limit went into effect at noon Eastern time July 25.

With the sales period now more than a month old and the initial sales rush over, the U.S. Mint raised the ceiling on orders for the new proof American Buffalo 24-karat gold coin from 10 pieces to 5,000.

This new individual order limit went into effect at noon Eastern time July 25.

Since sales began June 22, the Mint has sold more than half of the American Buffalo proof coins, some 156,000 out of a possible 300,000.

It had been considered, but then ruled out, that there would be no sales limitation, but the Mint wishes to maintain an orderly sales flow and preserve the opportunity of average collectors to buy what they want. The new order limitation is expected by Mint officials to do this.

Price of the American Buffalo proof gold coin is $800 each plus a shipping and handling charge of $4.95. Uncirculated versions are sold by dealers and the price of these varies with the gold bullion market. The coin contains one troy ounce of .9999 fine gold.

To place orders, visit the Mint Web site at www.usmint.gov or telephone (800) USA-MINT.
