Brockton celebrates Coin Week

A National Coin Week program April 16 attracted 105 people to the main library of Brockton, Mass., reports Richard J. Hand Jr.

Two guest speakers shared their numismatic knowledge at the event, which began at 1 p.m. and finished at 5 p.m.

Richard Balbaton of the Currency Club of New England presented a slide show and talk on Civil War paper currency.

Dana Zaizer of the Collectors Club of Boston did a PowerPoint presentation on Civil War tokens.

There was a raffle as well as door prizes with materials donated by L&C Coins, Scott Travers, Paul Hollis and Westside Stamps and Coins.

Mayor Linda M. Balzotti of the City of Brockton issued a proclamation for National Coin Week but could not attend.

State Representative Christine Canavan delivered a resolution marking the week from the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
