Mint customers were startled Oct. 1 when they began receiving a warning message that morning regarding the United States Mint’s website security certificate when placing online orders.
“Our security certificate had expired, and this was the reason for the warning,” said the Mint.
The problem was quickly tackled.
“We were able to update the security certificate by 1 p.m.,” the Mint reported.
At the same time reports of Chinese attempts to hack into sensitive White House computers were in headlines, the Mint reassured its clients, stating, “Our site certificate had not been compromised, nor had any other part of our site or any customer information. The United States Mint website continued to be a secure method for obtaining our products during this period. For those customers who placed their order online during the period of the expired certificate, please be assured your information is secure and your order will be processed. We apologize for any inconvenience customers may have experienced.”
