A group of gold $20s, patterns and early U.S. coinage anchor Bowers and Merena Auctions? May 8 Rarities Sale.

Heading up the double eagles is a Roman numerals 1907 wire rim Saint-Gaudens piece, graded MS-65 by the Professional Coin Grading Service.

It is joined in the sale by a 1913-S Saint in PCGS MS-65, a proof 1906 Liberty $20 in PCGS Proof-64 Cameo and a proof 1885 $20 in PCGS Proof-66 Deep Cameo, which had a proof mintage of just 77 pieces.

Among other double eagles is a 1903 Liberty graded Proof-65 Cameo by Numismatic Guaranty Corp. Catalogers said cameo surfaces are very unusual on coins of this time period.

A pair of small eagle 1795 gold $5s will also cross the block, one graded PCGS MS-62 and the other PCGS AU-50.

Gold $3s include a couple of proofs, an 1867 in NGC Proof-66 Cameo and an 18776 in PCGS Proof-65 Deep Cameo.

Patterns include a Gobrecht dollar in silver, Judd 60, Pollack 65, PCGS Proof-61, and an 1863 cent pattern in copper-nickel with plain edge, Judd 302, Pollack 365, PCGS Proof-68.

A proof 1836 half dollar with reeded edge, PCGS Proof-63, will be offered, as will a 1796 quarter in PCGS F-15.

Early coinage enthusiasts will enjoy a chance at a high-grade 1796 dime in NGC MS-66.

Finally, a commemorative 1915-S Panama-Pacific Expo octagonal gold $50 graded PCGS MS-62 will cross the block.

The 451-lot sale will take place in St. Louis, Mo., at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark. This hotel is located at One South Broadway, St. Louis, MO 63102.
