B&M sale nets $3.7 million

Stand-out performers included a 1926-S Buffalo nickel and a 1930-S Saint-Gaudens double eagle.

A 1926-S Buffalo nickel brought $116,150 and a 1930-S Saint-Gaudens $20 gold piece, PCGS MS-65, sold for $201,250 in Bowers and Merena?s July 13-14 auction.

Both coins were graded MS-65 by Professional Coin Grading Service.

Total price realized by the sale, which was the official auction of the summer Baltimore Coin and Currency Convention, was $3,712,161.

All prices reported here include 15-percent buyer fees.

Double eagle highlights of the sale also included a 1932 Saint-Gaudens double eagle, PCGS MS-64, that sold for $75,900; an 1866-S no motto Liberty double eagle graded AU-53 by Numismatic Guaranty Corp. that hit $48,300; and an 1866-S Liberty double eagle with motto, PCGS MS-62, that went for $39,100.

An 1827 Capped Head half eagle, B. 1-A, Miller-152, PCGS MS-64, realized $102,350 while an 1873 Liberty half eagle, closed 3, NGC Proof-65 Ultra Cameo, garnered $75,900.

An 1860 $3 gold, NGC Proof-65 Cameo, topped off at $59,800, and an 1873 gold $1 with closed 3, PCGS Proof-65, reached $31,050.

Among silver coins, $94,300 was the price for an 1803 Draped Bust dollar, B-5, BB-252, small 3, graded PCGS MS-63. An 1873-S Trade dollar, NGC MS-66, closed at $20,700, and $14,375 was paid for a 1925-S Peace dollar in PCGS MS-65.

A 1942/1-D Mercury dime, PCGS MS-65 Full Bands, sold for $20,125.

Additional Buffalo nickel highlights are a 1918-S, PCGS MS-65, that brought $36,800; a 1919-S, PCGS MS-65, that realized $18,975; and a 1919-D, PCGS MS-66, that finished at $16,675.

An 1857 Flying Eagle cent, PCGS Proof-64, also brought $16,675.
