B&M sale features 1860 double eagle

Called

Called ?exceedingly rare? by the cataloger, an 1860 copper Judd-273 pattern double eagle is one of the highlights in Bowers and Merena?s May 26 auction.

The 1,200-lot sale will be held in conjunction with the Anaheim, Calif., Coin & Collectibles Expo. There will be two sessions, beginning at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Pacific time.

Hosting the sale is the Anaheim Convention Center.

The 1860 double eagle has a grade of Proof-65 RB from Professional Coin Grading Service.

An 1870 Liberty eagle, graded Proof-63 Cameo by Numismatic Guaranty Corp., that is believed to be one of perhaps just 10 coins from a proof mintage of 35 pieces is a highlight, as is an 1842-C large date half eagle, graded MS-64 by NGC, and a PCGS MS-63 Panama-Pacific $50 piece.
