Crowds thronged the aisles of the Blue Ridge Numismatic Association convention Aug. 20-Aug. 22 at the Northwest Georgia Trade Center in Dalton, Ga., reports Gayle Pike.

As Young Numismatist chairman, Pike said the turnout for her program was also high. The event showed that some things change and others don’t.

As an example of what doesn’t change, the kids and their parents were treated by the convention center to hot dogs, chips and soft drinks and the kids reacted to the special treat as they always have.

As an example of what changes, the YN auction started out with the kids being given “Blue Ridge debit cards.” They were turned face down as each child selected one. The amount “loaded” on each card was written on the other side. Amounts ranged from $100 to $200.

Other programs included presentations on Chinese counterfeits, Confederate currency and Bust half dollars.

Participants at the show did double takes as BRNA secretary Blenda Brush was joined by her twin sister Glenda.

The show opened with its traditional ribbon cutting led by President Gary Overton.

Next year’s show will be Aug. 19-21 at the same location. Check the Blue Ridge website at www.brna.org forupdates.
