Bill may rid subway system of $1 coins

Legislation requiring Boston

Legislation requiring Boston?s subway system to give paper money in change when it totals more than $5 was introduced by State Rep. Denis Guyer, D-Dalton in the Massachussetts House of Representatives.

Guyer was reported as saying he had heard constituent complaints when they receive large numbers of $1 coins when tendering higher denomination bills for the $1.75 fare.

Guyer just happens to represent the district that is home to the paper supplier for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, which prints American paper money from locations in Washington, D.C., and Fort Worth, Texas.
