Production was nearly cut in half by the U.S. Mint in February from January levels.

Total coin output dropped to under one billion at 983.4 million pieces. In January total production was 1.79 billion coins.

Quarters saw the smallest drop in month-to-month comparisons. February output of 185 million coins was down from 207.6 million in February. That works out to a decline of 11 percent.

Cents were down by 50 percent to 534 million in February.

Nickels declined 51 percent. February production was 86.4 million pieces.

Dimes fell 45 percent to 178 million coins in February.

There were no half dollars or Native American dollars struck in Feburary, but their low totals don’t do much to move the needle for the overall monthly output figure.
