The Albert L. Baber Best in Show Award, handed out to top exhibitors at California State Numismatic Association shows, is being retired.

Named for longtime San Diego numismatist Al Baber and established in 1984 by his son, 30 Baber awards have been given out. Kay Lenker won the Baber award five times.

Baber was involved in numismatics for 45 years. In that time, he served as president of the San Diego Numismatic Society, the San Diego County Inter-Club Numismatic Council, the California Exonumist Society, La Mesa Numismatic Society, Convair Coineers, and the CSNA. He was a frequent exhibitor at coin shows in California until he died in 1999. In 1969, he was appointed to the U.S. Assay Commission.
