Austrian token wishes luck for 2012
Continuing the annual tradition begun in the 1930s, the Austrian Mint has issued a Lucky Token for 2012.
Many Austrians participate in the tradition by giving lucky tokens to each other with the wish for a happy, healthy and successful new year. Recipients then carry the token in their purses, pockets or wallets for the remainder of the year.
On the 2012 piece, the lucky chimney sweep brings in the new year by successfully climbing to the top of the Alps and celebrating with a thumbs-up.

The reverse side of the token bears the standard verse, loosely translated as: “Although, I am small and round, I’ll bring you luck all year round.”
The token is struck in bronze and .900 fine silver versions.
