One of my favorite websites, APMEX, has added a new reason to visit.
Usually I check the online coin and bullion retailer for current prices of things that are related to precious metals.
However, the website also sells slabbed collectible items.
On May 2 the firm announced that its collectible pieces would be accompanied by a new feature called CoinGrade+.
This provides useful background information potential buyers value.
If you want to know mintage, it’s there.
Graded population?
It’s there.
The number of coins graded higher?
Ditto.
And if you don’t like signing into every website you visit, it is made to order for you.
“APMEX offers CoinGrade+ to all visitors to our website, whether they intend to purchase a coin from us or not,” said Mike Garofalo, Director of Numismatics at APMEX.
To offer this data, APMEX has reached agreements with two major third-party grading firms.
“Data from both NGC and PCGS are synched daily so the data you are viewing is never out of date,” said Ken Lewis, CEO of APMEX.
The point of offering this information on the website is one of convenience.
It is not secret information. It is out there.
But APMEX has simply assembled it in one handy location for customers and potential customers to view right next to the coin they might be considering buying.
So far, the firm says that CoinGrade+ is available on more than 5,000 coins on the APMEX website that have been graded by PCGS and NGC.
Over time, this number will expand.
It will show you what I am talking about.
Not every slab offered on the website is paired yet with CoinGrade+.
Give APMEX some time.
But I won’t wait to offer my congratulations.
