The Albuquerque Coin Club held its Fall 2006 coin show Oct. 6-8. There were 97 tables of numismatic material from more than 45 dealers from several states. Many happy dealers expressed satisfaction with the show.
William Horton, president of the American Numismatic Association, attended all three days to meet ANA members, listen to their comments and answer questions. There were 10 new ANA members signed up during his visit.
A special presidential award was made by Horton to one of the club?s outstanding members: Warner Talso, for his outstanding support of the ANA and its summer seminars. It was a complete surprise to him and for the first time ever, Warner was actually speechless.
The ACC is actively working on a Young Numismatists program by planning for a separate YN Club, and having hourly drawings for YNs during the show. Prizes for these drawings were donated by the United Nations FAO Coin program, the U.S. Mint and several dealers. These drawings were well attended and greatly appreciated by both the YNs and their parents.
The ACC is an active group with diverse collecting interests. The current membership is more than 125 members, with about 60 at its monthly meetings. Meetings start at 7 p.m. on the last Monday of each month, except December, at the MCM Elegante Hotel, 2020 Menaul St. Each meeting features a live auction of material submitted by fellow members. There are also informal weekly breakfasts that are open to anyone for fellowship, a numismatic show and tell and plain good conversation.
The club?s next show will be April 13-15, 2007. It has grown considerably the last four years, from a 20-table show once a year to its current size of 97 tables twice a year. When the show closed, about 80 percent of the dealers in attendance had signed contracts for the April show.
