Bowers and Merena Auctions has agreed to sign up 2,000 new members of the American Numismatic Association as part of a deal naming the firm official auctioneer of the ANA?s two 2009 conventions.

ANA executive director Larry Shepherd announced May 23 that ANA and B&M finalized an agreement that gives B&M exclusive rights to conduct auctions at the March 13-15, 2009, National Money Show in Portland, Ore., and the Aug. 5-9, 2009, World?s Fair of Money in Los Angeles, Calif.

For those rights, B&M will pay the ANA an undisclosed base fee for both shows, plus 2 percent of the total sale price for all auction sales over $12 million in Portland and over $20 million in Los Angeles.

B&M also pledged to sign up 2,000 new ANA members from Sept. 1, 2008, through Dec. 31, 2009.

Further, B&M sister firm Teletrade will conduct a sanctioned Internet auction immediately preceding each convention.

B&M plans to conduct live auctions during the 2009 ANA conventions.
?We have a tremendous respect for the ANA and what the organization does to advance coin and currency collecting, and the entire Bowers and Merena team is looking forward to working with them toward our mutual goals,? said Steve Deeds, president of B&M.

Selection of B&M as official auctioneer for 2009 had been agreed to in principle in March at the Phoenix, Ariz., National Money Show, said Jay Beeton, ANA marketing and public relations director.
