Longtime dealer Larry J. Shepherd was named the new executive director of the American Numismatic Association at a ribbon cutting ceremony March 7 opening the National Money Show in Phoenix, Ariz.
The selection was made at a board dinner March 6 in the hotel suite of ANA President Barry Stuppler. Seven of nine ANA board members were present. Missing were Radford Stearns, who was ill, and Ed Rochette, who had a family obligation.
?I?m excited about Larry,? Stuppler said. ?He understands the issues. He?s smart. He has a good background in business and finance. He can hit the ground running.?
Shepherd has a collector background, a business background and has been a dealer for years, Stuppler noted.
No starting date has yet been revealed. It depends on how quickly ANA legal counsel Ron Sirna can write the contract.
Acting Director Ken Hallenback said just two words, ?Greatly relieved.?
He then elaborated.
?I?ve done my duty, now I can hopefully relax and get out of the way.?
