The American Numismatic Association has given John W. Dannreuther the 2007 Numismatist of the Year Award, it announced July 27.
Dannreuther was to be presented the award Aug. 10 at a membership reception during the World?s Fair of Money in Milwaukee, Wis.
Dannreuther became a full-time coin dealer in 1973. Today, he is considered one of the top coin experts in the world. He has written much about U.S. coins, with an emphasis on rarities and die varieties. His research has been published in many publications.
One of Dannreuther?s most noteworthy numismatic accomplishments was co-founding Professional Coin Grading Service in 1986.
The ANA Numismatist of the Year Award is given annually for career achievement in the field of numismatics.
