Brian Fanton was given the Farran Zerbe Memorial Award at the American Numismatic Association’s awards banquet held Aug. 4 in association with the Denver World’s Fair of Money.

The Farran Zerbe Award is the ANA’s top honor.

Fanton, a longtime booster of the ANA, is owner of a Hiawatha, Iowa, coin shop. This business venture follows his nearly 40-year career with Northwestern Bell.

The ANA’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to Silver Spring, Md., dealer Julian M. Leidman, who has been in the business for more than 45 years.

Inducted into the ANA’s Hall of Fame was Raymond W. Dillard of Fenton, Mich. Dillard is perhaps best known for bringing his coin-elongating machine to ANA conventions and many others.

Charmy Harker, known to many collectors and dealers as “The Penny Lady,” was the recipient of the Elvira Clain-Stefanelli Memorial Award.

The Harry J. Forman Dealer of the Year Award went to Anthony Terranova of Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Burnett Anderson Memorial Award for Excellence in Numismatic Writing was bestowed upon Donn Pearlman, owner of a Las Vegas-based public relations and marketing firm.

The ANA banquet ended with recognition of outgoing ANA officers Tom Mulvaney and Walter Ostromecki and the installation of new officers, as well as remarks from outgoing President Jeff Garrett and incoming President Gary Adkins.
