The Atlantic County Numismatic Society, the coin club of record for Atlantic County, N.J., announced that it is the recipient of the 2010 Club of the Year award from the Garden State Numismatic Association.

Founded in 1975, GSNA has more than 500 members and represents all of the coin clubs in the state of New Jersey.

ACNS says it was recognized for its engaging guest speakers, YN program, innovative 10-week coin collecting course and for building a membership of more than 100 members in the short three-year period of the group’s existence.

“It’s an incredible honor to be selected as Club of the Year, and we’re thrilled to be in the company of much larger and well-established New Jersey coin clubs,” said Jason O’Grady, ACNS founder and president.

Among the society’s plans this year are presentations by noted forensic numismatist and metallurgist Chris Pilliod on detecting counterfeit gold coins and a hands-on lab on numismatic photography.

The ACNS meets at 6 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at the Linwood, N.J., library. Membership is $5 per year. YN membership is free.

For more information, call O’Grady at (609) 412-1490, e-mail accoins@gmail.com or visit www.accoins.org.
