For those of you not already a member of the United States Mint’s American Eagle Silver Ounce Uncirculated Coin Enrollment program, May 29 is the day the Mint will have this product available for sale.

Known as the world’s only one ounce silver bullion coin with a weight, content and purity guaranteed by the United States government, the America Silver Eagle has a face value of one dollar and contains one troy ounce of 99.9 percent pure silver. Imagine finding one in circulation from a poor soul who didn’t realize the silver content but just thought it to be another dollar coin!

The obverse, or heads, features Adolph A. Weinman’s full-length figure of Liberty in full stride, enveloped in folds of the flag. This iconic design was a public favorite on the Walking Liberty Half Dollar coin from 1916 to 1947, causing it to be revived for the Silver Eagle many decades later.

On the reverse, or tails, John Mercanti’s design depicts a heraldic eagle behind a shield, grasping an olive branch in its right talon and arrows in its left, which echoes the Great Seal of the United States.

Uncirculated American Silver Eagle coins were issued from 2006 through 2008 and then resumed again in 2011.

Price is $46.95, the same as the 2018 issue. No mintage or household order limits apply and coins can be ordered from the U.S. Mint at www.usmint.gov or by calling 800-USA-MINT.
