When sales begin later this year for the 5-ounce 3-inch diameter silver bullion version of the America the Beautiful quarters, the five designs will be issued consecutively rather than at the same time, said Tom Jurkowsky, the Mint’s public affairs director at the end of July.

Starting date for the program has not been set yet.

However, Jurkowski said the Mint could sell in the aggregate up to 500,000 pieces by the end of 2010. This is the number of planchets that will be available from Sunshine Minting.

Specific mintage numbers are still to be approved by the Treasury secretary, Jurkowsky explained, so he did not know whether the mintages would be evenly divided among the five designs.

Price was also something not yet available.

“The premium hasn’t been determined,” Jurkowsky said.
