What a summer we had! No big vacation for me, just short little weekend trips when time allowed, leaving the bulk of our time spent on the updating of the Standard Catalog of World Coins 1801-1900 8th edition. This was the first time I have tackled the full editing task on an SCWC title, along with my usual goals of market analysis and image improvement. In fact, now that all of you are working primarily on excel spread sheets, 2015 was the first year I completed all of the data entry work myself as well. Thanks to all of you for working so diligently to ensure that this volume provides a great improvement over the SCWC 1801-1900 7th edition!
Moving forward into the fall we have just begun work on new coin issues entry. This task is being complicated, or perhaps instigated, by our Coin of the Year awards, which will honor 2014 dated types this time around. Connor Falk has received nearly 400 nominations from Mints, Distributors, Judges and Designers many of which are new to us and need to be entered into the database and assigned KM numbers. Alongside these noncirculating commemoratives, we have a fair number of circulating types to add for 2014 and 2015. In fact, many of these have been compiled and forwarded to us from you, our busy contributors. Thanks for your conscientiousness!
Give us a month or so to get all of these new types entered and then we will send out new excel sheets to you for updating both the SCWC 1901-2000 44th edition and the SCWC 2001-Date 11th edition. I hope to begin emailing these by the first week of November if not before, so if you have any change in your email address or any different countries you wish to review, please contact me at tom.michael@fwcommunity.com or Maggie Judkins at maggie.judkins@fwcommunity.com This year Maggie and I will be working on new coin issues together, while she has the duel task of working with many of you to produce the 22nd edition of the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money Modern Issues.
Our editorial production periods on the three upcoming books are as follows:
- SCWPM Modern Issues 22nd edition - November 5th to January 12th (books available in mid-April)
- SCWC 1901-2000 44th edition – January 12th to March 14th (books available in early-June)
- SCWC 2001-Date 11th edition – January 27th to March 28th (books available in mid-June)
This means that the bulk of the research, data entry, page creation and design work will be done during these time periods. Following these books or perhaps running parallel, we will be editing and creating pages for several smaller annual titles such as the U.S. Coin Digest, North American Coins and Prices and Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money.
After all of these projects are completed or nearing completion, we will begin preparing excel sheets for contributor updates on the Standard Catalog of World Coins 1701-1800 7th edition. This will be our large summer project for 2016 and I would expect the production period to begin in June and last through September. I plan to email these spread sheets in May, 2016, so if you have any special requests, special project ideas, change of address or email address, need different countries than normal or wish to receive your spread sheets early, please contact me now to discuss options.
