With all the hullabaloo surrounding the release of the Washington Presidential dollar, it might be easy for the March 20 release date of the 2007 Sacagawea dollar to get lost in the shuffle.
By law, fully one-third of all dollars produced in 2007 must carry the Sacagawea design, leaving two-thirds of the production to the Presidential series.
To comply, with the Federal Reserve ordering 300 million of the Washington dollar, that means there must be an order for 150 million Sac dollars.
If the other three Presidential dollars are ordered in the same numbers, the 1.2 billion of those will have to be offset by 600 million Sacs. The would be the highest mintage since the first year of issue in 2000 and the second highest total ever.
