Hobbyists looking to purchase a 2007-dated one-ounce Buffalo gold bullion coin don?t have much longer to wait.
Deliveries of the new coins were expected Feb. 26 to the Mint?s distributors, which in turn provide them to Numismatic News advertisers and others.
Mintage of the 2006, the first year of issue, totalss 337,000. For comparison, when the one-ounce gold American Eagle was introduced in 1986, 1,362,650 were purchased.
The Buffalo has to compete with the American Eagle in addition to foreign gold bullion coins. It is made of 24-karat gold, or .999 fine gold, whereas the American Eagle is .9167 fine gold, or 22 karat.
