A third new product, 12-note Federal Reserve sets of Series 2004 $50s, will become available Jan. 24, 2006.

The $2 notes, called star notes because they have a star at the end of the serial number, cost $9.95 each. To buy one from each Fed district to form your own 12-district set totals $119.40. All of these Series 2003 $2s have serial numbers under 16000. No effort will be made to provide matching serial numbers to customers.

The BEP is making available 10,000 notes from each district. Bulk orders of up to 250 packages will be allowed, with special price breaks if you order more than 50 from an individual bank or more than five 12-bank groups, and there is a further break if you order more than 100 notes.

The Year of the Dog packages, $5.95 each, include a $1 Federal Reserve Note with a serial number that begins with 8888. The number eight is considered lucky in some Asian cultures. This continues the BEP’s Lucky Money product line, which has included Year of the Goat, Year of the Horse, Year of the Rooster, Year of the Monkey and other items.

The product theme coincides with the Chinese lunar year. Jan. 29, 2006, is the first day of the Year of the Dog, also known as year 4703 in China.
