A 1796 Draped Bust quarter is among highlights of Bowers and Merena Auctions? Nov. 9-10 official auction of the Baltimore Coin & Currency Convention.
The three-session sale of about 2,900 lots of coins and paper money will be held at the Baltimore Convention Center.
This 1796 quarter, graded AU-58 by Professional Coin Grading Service, reference number Browning 2, has a pedigree that Bowers and Merena catalogers have traced back to Abe Kosoff.
An 1884-S Morgan dollar graded PCGS MS-64 highlights silver dollars. Catalogers stressed the rarity of 1884-S Morgans in Mint State condition.
Buffalo nickels offer a PCGS MS-65 1926-S example, catalogers again stressing the date?s general unavailability in Mint State condition. PCGS reports 10 in this grade with none finer. Another 1926-S graded PCGS MS-65 sold in Bowers and Merena?s January 2003 Rarities Sale, where it brought $103,500, catalogers noted.
Mercury dimes include a 1916-D, PCGS MS-66 Full Bands, and 1919-D, also PCGS MS-66 Full Bands.
Several PCGS Registry Sets will be auctioned, including the current fourth-ranked Indian Head cent basic circulation strike set, third-ranked Buffalo nickel circulation strike set, third-ranked Mercury dime full bands circulation strikes with varieties set, third-ranked Standing Liberty quarter full head circulation strike set and third-ranked Walking Liberty half dollar circulation strikes set.
