Updated 100-Rupee Note for Mauritius

The Bank of Mauritius introduced a new 100-rupee note in June 2025, with only minor differences from the version issued between 1999 and 2024.

The new Mauritius 100-rupee bank note, which was released into circulation by the Bank of Mauritius in June 2025, shows little change compared to its predecessor from 1999 to 2024. The portrait of Mauritian politician and government minister Renganaden Seeneevassen remains on the orange and brown-colored obverse, as do the motifs behind him.

However, what is new are decorative additions that both acknowledge the island nation’s fauna while also incorporating updated security features. In this collaboration with the French digital security company Oberthur Fiduciaire and the Bank of Mauritius, the previous notes’ paper composition has been updated with GUARDIAN™ polymer. At the lower right is now an illustration of the extinct Dodo, which was endemic to Mauritius. The flightless bird sits beside an egg-shaped transparent window with iridescent colors created by SwingTM technology.

This issue release is the result of a public notice by the Bank of Mauritius on December 2, 2024, under section 35 of the Bank of Mauritius Act 2004. An updated Mauritius 1,000-rupee featuring Mauritian politician Charles Gaetan Duval was released into circulation in December 2024, which also has transparent windows and a Dodo cameo in the design. A new Mauritius 200-rupee note, which shows a portrait of former Senior Minister Sir Abdool Razack Mohamed, will feature similar new additions and will be introduced to circulation later in 2025. All redesigned bank notes will co-exist with the earlier paper bank notes, which remain as legal tender.
