The Perth Mint has issued Australia’s first double sovereign.

In 2009, Perth introduced a reprise of the original Australian gold sovereign of 1853. It was denominated as $25. It has been issued every year since.

In 2015, a half sovereign arrived with a face value of $15.

It is now the turn of the double sovereign, struck on 28.90 mm, 15.982 g (.4712 oz), .917 fine gold flan. Appropriately, the face value of the new coin is $50. Mintage is 500.

Like the modern sovereign and half sovereign, the reverse design of the new coin by Ing Ing Jong follows that of the original Sydney Mint reverse by Leonard Wyon.
