Poll Question: Are you looking forward to collecting the 250th Anniversary coins in 2026? Why or why not?
From the November 28, 2025, Numismatic News e-Newsletter, while many readers expressed excitement about the upcoming 250th-anniversary commemoratives, concerns over rising U.S. Mint prices tempered some of that enthusiasm.
I am going to try to get every coin that is issued.
Joel Gossage, Wylie, Texas
I don't normally collect commemoratives unless they're truly important to me. It would depend on the options offered by the mint and what kind of value they are. Lately, the mint has been price-gouging on many of its offerings. If they're not overpriced, I would buy one or more of the commemoratives.
Louis Ludiciani, Cumberland, R.I.
From what I have seen so far, it's going to come down to the price. I've seen some stupid prices.

Looking forward to the new coins in 2026. Instead of just collectible, there should be issues made for the first year into circulation.

Yes, I’ll probably purchase a few, but probably not any silver issues, as the U.S. Mint overcharges for its silver coins. I really was hoping to see something to honor the Cent and maybe the Nickel, soon to be retired. Really curious about the new issued coin sets, maybe the Mint will include a 2026 penny in them, like they continue to do with the Kennedy Half.

Yes, I am looking forward to collecting all the new 250th anniversary coins next year. It might be a nice change of pace and encourage interest in coin collecting from new and especially younger collectors.
Dave Burdis, Charleroi, Pa.
Not if Trump is on any of them. I spend thousands of dollars a year on U.S. Mint products. I will cancel all of my subscriptions and stop making any purchases if Trump appears on any coins, which is illegal.

Ordinarily, I would eagerly buy coins like those commemorating the U.S. 25th anniversary. I fear the mint will seek to mint a $1 coin commemorating Trump. While a living president can’t be on a coin (federal law prohibits it), I fear they will do it anyway.
If that occurs, I certainly won’t buy any coins.

Yes, I am looking forward to the new coins for next year. They will be as special to me as the 1976 coins. I've been collecting coins since 1956 (I was 7 at the time) and have amassed a rather large collection of coins. Now that I'm in my 70s, I am starting to feel it may be time to consider selling my vast collection...But not until next year.

The problem for a significant number of retirees in the Madison Coin Club, the largest in the state of Wisconsin, is that the U.S. Mint is pricing us out of the market! Prices continue to climb due to the price of silver and gold, and the cost of manufacturing and selling medals and coins. A bunch of retirees spoke up at a meeting earlier this year, saying they have stopped buying from the Mint due to the prices. If this practice continues, the Mint will be the one that suffers.
I cut my purchases in 2025 and will have to cut them again in 2026. Sure would love to own some of those 250th Anniversary coins next year, but the Mint is driving us out of the market! In my opinion, the U.S. Mint needs to stop allowing Congress to dictate what they make and make coins for collectors and for people to use in commerce, but that is another topic.

Yes! Most likely, July 4th will start the ordering process, so I'm keeping updated with any released information on what to expect and saving some cash so I can bid on expected auctioned rarities the mint has been in the habit of producing. What I'm really looking forward to is Paul Hollis beginning his tenure as the new Mint Director.
Michael Young, Merritt Island, Fla.
Yes! I started collecting coins as a kid as a result of my interest in the Bicentennial coinage and the nationwide coin design contest that determined the designs. It will be fun seeing new designs in circulation, and who knows, maybe it will inspire a new generation of collectors!
Steven Bieda, Warren, Mich.
I’m definitely looking forward to picking up as many 2026 Semi-Q products from the U.S. Mint as financially possible. From dual-dated proof ASE to enhanced Morgan & Peace dollars. There are so many offerings this year, there’s something special for everyone.

Yes, I am looking forward to picking up many of the coins that I can afford. Which means that I am staying with the silver versions. The gold is too expensive, and I could not buy more than one or two coins. I can get more coins going with the silver.
