Currency Stolen Following Central States Show
Approximately 95 percent of Emporium Coin and Currency’s stock was stolen after the Central States Numismatic Society show that was held May 1-4 in Schaumburg, Ill. The Minnesota-based dealer reported over half a million dollars worth of collector paper money stolen straight out of a car.
The company reports that it is still in business. It is focusing on selling the remaining 5 percent of its inventory while working with the Des Plaines Police Department and the Numismatic Crimes Information Center to recover the stolen currency.
“Things will work out one way or the other. Thanks to all my friends for all your love and concern,” said Ed, owner of Emporium.
He encourages anyone with any information to step forward, appealing to his regular audience with a special bulletin included in the company’s advertisements. “Many of you are quite familiar with our prior ads, so if you see any items that are possibly suspect, please contact Doug Davis at the Numismatic Crimes Information Center doug@numismaticcrimes.org or the Des Plaines, Ill. Police Department (847) 391-5400.”
