Steve D’Ippolito will be guest speaker at the Women in Numismatics’ general membership meeting to be held in conjunction with the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money in Denver, Colo.
The meeting is set for 9 a.m. on Aug. 4 in Room 112 of the Colorado Convention Center.
D’Ippolito will present “A Century of Empresses, Russia in the 18th Century,” a talk about an extraordinary period of Russian history, highlighting the coinage of the period.
D’Ippolito has been a collector since childhood and began specializing in Russian Imperial coinage in 1991, concentrating exclusively on his collection starting in 1996.
In 1998, he began exhibiting at the ANA World’s Fair of Money, winning the class in which he competed every time, with just one exception.
In 1999, 2002 and 2003 he won second runner-up for Best of Show, and in 2005, 2006 and 2007 he won the Howland Wood Award for Best of Show.
In 2008, he sold most of his Russian Imperial holdings. He has been relatively inactive as an exhibitor since that time but has served at many ANA shows as either exhibit judge or assistant chief judge. He has also served on the ANA Exhibits Committee and as chair for four years. Since 2009, the ANA National Money Show Best of Show Award has been named in his honor. He will be serving as host chair at the Denver show.
WIN’s general meeting is open to the public, and anyone interested is invited to attend. For more information, email Kathy Freeland at ksfdaf@sbcglobal.net.
