Speaker highlights Flushing meeting

The Flushing, N.Y., Coin Club hosted a presentation titled “Undervalued Coins.” The presentation was given at the club’s May meeting in Flushing, N.Y., by guest speaker Ken Rubin.

Rubin, currently an officer of both the Massapequa Coin Club and the Long Island Coin Club, discussed the occasional significant differences between the various published price guides and the actual sale prices.

Again and again he made the point that they are not equal. He emphasized the need to understand the interplay between mintage, rarity and quality. Using a computer-based presentation, and entertaining the club with images of the Three Stooges, he showed that getting the most bang for your buck is the result of good research.

It was the hands-on showing of his own recently purchased 1871-CC quarter that was so convincing, according to the club report.
Also present at the meeting was Chris Donato, co-founder, chairman and newsletter editor of the American Association of Young Numismatists. He thanked the Flushing Coin Club for its continued financial support of the YN program.
