A 1794 Flowing Hair silver dollar is part of a collection that Stack’s Bowers Galleries will put on the auction block March 29-31 in Baltimore.
The Blue Moon Collection was begun over 50 years ago and features coins purchased from major Stack’s auctions of the 1970s and 1980s.
The 1794 silver dollar was once in the cabinet of R.L. Miles Jr.. The Professional Coin Grading Service grades it AU-58.
Stack’s Bowers says this is the first time it has been offered publicly in almost 40 years.
Also in the sale will be original proof sets from 1865 to the 1950s, including a complete 1907 set from the cent through Liberty Head gold and a 1908 gold matte proof set.
Also in the sale will be over 200 $5 gold pieces in grades from XF to choice uncirculated. The run begins with the 1795 Small Eagle and ends with the 1929.
Draped Bust, Gobrecht, Seated Liberty, Trade, Morgan and Peace silver dollars will also be sold.
Nine different varieties of silver Gobrecht dollars to be featured include the rarest of the rare, 1836 Judd-65, 1838 Judd-88, and 1839 Judd-108.
