Rare coins displayed at Georgia convention

Two of the rarest U.S. coins will be on display at the Georgia Numismatic Association 49th convention to be held in Dalton, Ga., from April 19-21 at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center.

Two of the rarest U.S. coins will be on display at the Georgia Numismatic Association 49th convention to be held in Dalton, Ga., from April 19-21 at the Northwest Georgia Trade & Convention Center.

The American Numismatic Association will show the 1804 silver dollar and 1913 Liberty Head nickel worth millions of dollars. This is the first time in many years that these rare coins have been displayed in the southeast area of the U.S. The ANA also will have a number of special presentations given by the ANA staff, including ANA Executive Director Jeff Shelvin. There will also be coin displays prepared by GNA members.

The most complete and comprehensive color guide to all circulating and non-circulating U.S. coins.

The convention will have over 300 tables with over 500 coin dealers selling and buying rare coins, paper money, medals, tokens, gold and silver coins, and many other related items. The public is invited to bring in items they want to sell for coin dealers to examine. There will also be a number of coin grading services available to evaluate coins.

As part of convention activities, a 1914-D Lincoln cent will be dropped into circulation around the Dalton, Ga., area. Anyone who finds this coin can return it during the convention to the registration desk and after verification receive a $250 reward.

On Saturday, April 20, at 1 p.m., there will be a special young people’s program including a presentation on coin collecting.
Every person 18 years and younger will receive free coins, medals, tokens, paper money, coin books, coin folders, and other related items donated by GNA members and coin dealers.
