Raleigh show set July 19-21

The Raleigh Coin Club (Raleigh, N.C.) will be hosting its annual three-day Coin, Currency and Stamp Show at the NC State Fairgrounds once again, with this year’s show taking place at the Exposition Center on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, July 19-21.

This is the first year the show will be held in the Exposition Center in order to offer collectors and show attendees a bigger show with more collector-focused activities and attractions. It is the biggest show of its kind held in North Carolina.

The show will feature 150 dealer tables offering a wide selection of U.S. and world coins and currency, along with a large variety of tokens, medals, collecting supplies and new and collectible books. A special section devoted to U.S. and world stamps, covers and postal stationery will also be available.

This year’s show will feature two special attractions with a gold mining theme. North Carolina’s historic Reed Gold Mine, the site of the first documented gold find in the United States, will be on hand with its “Panning for Gold” exhibit. Show attendees will have the opportunity to pan for gold and take home a souvenir of real gold. The Confederate Mining Company (CMC) of South Carolina, an active gold mining company that also creates hand-struck collectible “coins,” will help attendees strike their own souvenir by hand.

ANACS will be on site to accept grading submissions and will offer special show pricing.

The show will include a full schedule of educational talks on Friday and Saturday, with “Gold in the Carolinas” the theme for Saturday afternoon. The schedule follows.

Friday: 1 p.m., John Kraljevich, “Top 10 U.S. Colonial Types That Aren’t In the Red Book;” 2 p.m., Bob Schreiner, “Scrip Rider: Tales of a 19th Century Traveler;” 3 p.m. Tom Wood, “Biblical Coins.”

Saturday: 11 a.m., Howard Daniel, “Cambodian Coins and Currency;” 1 p.m., “Confederate Stories of an Active Gold Mine Mining Company;” 2 p.m., Reed Gold Mine, “Gold Mining in North Carolina;” 3 p.m., David Boitnott, “The U.S. Mint at Charlotte, N.C.”

Multiple fun and educational activities for young collectors are planned for all three days of the show, with free coins and stamps available to kids 16 and under. Parents are encouraged to bring their children to the “Kids Zone” at the show to take part in the fun.

The show will once again feature a strong selection of educational exhibits prepared by members of the RCC and other local clubs.
