The 29th Annual National Coin and Currency Convention, Nov. 19-23, will be held at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, 5440 N. River Road, Rosemont, Ill. Featured is a three-session auction by Lyn Knight Currency Auctions, including U.S. and world paper money.
The event is sponsored by the Professional Currency Dealers Association.
Convention activities get underway at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 19, when auction lot viewing will open. Lot viewing will close for the evening at 6 p.m. that day. Viewing resumes the next day at 9 a.m., one hour prior to the booth holder move in and setup period, which concludes at 1 p.m., when the Early Bird/Professional Preview Day gets underway and runs until 6 p.m. There is a $75 registration fee for the preview. Lot viewing will close at 4 p.m. on Thursday and the first session of the auction will start at 5 p.m., featuring world paper money.
Lot viewing will run from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. The second session of the Knight auction will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday and the third and final session at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Friday and Saturday sessions will include U.S. paper money.
“I’m especially pleased that we’ll once again have a Lyn Knight auction as part of our event,” said Patricia Foley, event general chairman. “Lyn was a successful and respected dealer in rare currency before I was even born. His auctions have been a central feature of our event since its very first year and his participation is one of the primary reasons for its longevity.”
Public hours for the 75-booth bourse will be Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A three-day pass is $5. Children 16 and under accompanied by an adult will be admitted free.
“Since moving from St. Louis to the Chicago area the National Coin and Currency Convention has been in a growth mode,” bourse chairman Kevin Foley said. “2014 will be a repeat of that experience. As I write this we have just two booths remaining available and I’m looking forward to yet another commercially active event.”
The Chicago Coin Club is slated to hold a meeting at 1 p.m. on Saturday that is open to the public. The speaker and topic have not yet been finalized.
A discounted group room rate of $115 is available over the NCCC dates. Attendees should call the hotel at (877) 337-5793 and ask for the “National Coin and Currency Convention” rate for the special discount. A discounted daily parking rate of $10 is also available for guests staying under the NCCC room block.
