Highlighting the fifth sale of coins from the Eric P. Newman Collection by Heritage Auctions Nov. 14-15 was an Numismatic Guaranty Corporation MS- 62 Continental dollar struck in brass with the CURENCY misspelling that sold for $440,625.
The coin was one of six Continental dollars in the auction and one of 965 lots, all graded by NGC.
“The Eric P. Newman Collection has solidified its place as one of the greatest collections ever sold and NGC is honored to have been chosen to grade the first five parts,” says Mark Salzberg, NGC Chairman.
Overall, the sale realized $10.4 million.
Bringing $381,875 was an NGC MS-63 Continental dollar in pewter with the “CURRENCEY” spelling.
A 1785 Inimica Tyrannis Confederatio copper graded NGC MS-63 BN, the finest of seven known, sold for $352,500.
