Mark your calendars for June 18-21 for the Memphis International Paper Money Show and a major currency auction by Lyn Knight Auctions.
Held at the Cook Convention Center, 255 N. Main in downtown Memphis, the 2015 IPMS is expected to draw a nearly 200-table paper money bourse (the nation’s largest), an extensive speaker series (see p. 14 for details), and colorful educational displays from around the world.
Auction highlights include the Dave Rickey Collection of U.S. large-size star notes, described as “the finest collection ever assembled - with nearly a complete collection including the Fr. 123* and $10 Fr. 303 star that is unique.” The collection also features an impressive nine of 16 $100 FRN stars known.
The Cleveland Collection will also cross the block and is highlighted by an Fr. 1133d $1,000 1918 Federal Reserve Note graded PCGS Gem CU 65PPQ, as well as a Fr. 167a $100 “Spread Eagle” PCGS Ch. New 63 and a Fr. 2003d* 1928-C* $10 Federal Reserve Note Gem New 65PPQ. Also included is a collection of large-size type notes, a group of Red Seal 1914 Federal Reserve Notes and a selection of Cleveland material.
Nationals are topped by two Montana $5 Territorials from Fort Benton and Miles City.
From Wyoming is a collection including a $10 First Charter Territorial from Cheyenne and a comprehensive offering of Wyoming charters.
World collectors will delight in the Barry Jaffee Collection of World Bank Notes, “an exhaustive collection of bank notes….with examples from the vast majority of countries.”
Also featured is the Palpitant Collection of French Bank notes, “a lifelong collection featuring an array of beautiful rare early types in high grade and wonderful pastel pieces that exemplify French notes.”
The show opens to dealers and Early Bird badge holders on Thursday at noon. Early Bird badges are available for $75 and the public admission is $7 per day or $20 for the entire show (Friday - Sunday). Dealer/Exhibitor set-up and Early Bird only is June 18 from 12 p.m.-6 p.m. The show is open to the public Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, June 21 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
