Fred Holabird, a mining engineer by trade and a respected authority on scripophily, will be the keynote speaker at the Chicago Coin Club’s meeting to be held in conjunction with the 2012 National Coin and Currency Convention, set for Nov. 8-11.
The convention, sponsored by the Professional Currency Dealers Association, will be held at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, in Rosemont, Ill.
“Mr. Holabird is especially well versed in Western historical themes and is a principal in the highly regarded Holabird-Americana firm,” said Patricia Foley, convention general chairman.
His presentation is titled “I Own Arizona: James Addison Reavis and the Peralta Land Grant Fraud.” It is set for 1 p.m. Nov. 10.
Following Holabird will be financial historian Lawrence Schuffman with “World War I Liberty Bonds and Their Historical Context in the Fight Against the Kaiser,” according to Foley.

Featuring dealers from 22 states, the convention will include dealers in U.S. and world coins as well as paper money.
