Women in Numismatics, an organization founded in 1991 to enhance networking opportunities for female numismatists, will hold a membership meeting in conjunction with the 74th Anniversary Convention of the Central States Numismatic Society in Schaumburg, Ill.

Each element of this multimedia package provides a distinct educational opportunity for any coin collector.

The meeting will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Schaumburg Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center and will feature a program by Mequon, Wis., dealer Andrew Kimmel of Paragon Numismatics.

A member of a number of numismatic organizations, including the Professional Numismatists Guild, the National Silver Dollar Roundtable, the Florida United Numismatists, as well as CSNS, Kimmel began his numismatic career in 1987, specializing in toned dollars. He opened his office in 1991.

Kimmel’s topic will be “The Ten Best Ways to Waste Your Money in Numismatics.”

“While I always like to entertain, as well as educate my audience, my topic for the WIN meeting is one that participants in the numismatic marketplace tend to bury their heads in the sand about,” Kimmel said.

“Our unregulated marketplace is full of traps and pitfalls to snare the unwary – and especially the uneducated. I’ve never ceased to be amazed at how many people will spend rather substantial amounts of money on numismatic items of various kinds without taking the rather obvious and basic step of learning before buying.”

WIN officers are Lorraine Weiss, president; Cindy Wibker, vice president; Robin Grace, secretary; Jacquie Flanigan, treasurer; Carrie Best, parliamentarian; Kathy Freeland, publicity; Katie Heinrich, editor; Lisa Loos and Charmy Harker, members at large; Maureen Nixon, webmaster; and Prue Fitts, past president.

Women in Numismatics publishes its own membership journal, Winning Ways, three times per year and maintains a website, www.womeninnumismatics.com. Membership information is available on the website.
