Coin collectors from around the world will gather April 26-29 for the 37th annual Chicago International Coin Fair. The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare, in Rosemont, Ill., a short distance from Chicago’s international airport.
“It is always a pleasure to play host to an event that truly draws people from around the globe,” said Scott Tappa, convention chairman and Numismatic News publisher. “The world coin collecting community is alive and well, and we have dealers, auction companies and collectors buying and selling material from just about everywhere.”
The CICF bourse will once again feature more than 100 dealers, auction houses, suppliers, organizations and other firms serving the world coin community. Represented in this group are 25 different states and six countries. A current list of CICF exhibitors can be found online at www.cicfshow.com.
“While we certainly value our local customers, this is not strictly a Chicagoland show,” said Tappa. “Hobby leaders will be on that bourse floor, driving the market.”
For the third time, Heritage Auction Galleries will serve as CICF’s official auction company. In its first two years, Heritage has presented amazing sales, with prices realized higher than any seen at the event in recent years. This year’s sale will be no different, with more than 5,200 lots to be sold over six sessions.
“Cris Bierrenbach, Warren Tucker, David Michaels and the rest of the Heritage team have been fantastic to work with, their contributions to CICF’s success over the past few years have been absolutely critical,” said Tappa. “We know the auction will draw bidders from around the world and look for them to drive business on the bourse as well.”
Auction lot viewing will begin Tuesday, April 24, in a room to be determined. The first session, covering ancient coins, will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, with four world sessions following Thursday, Friday (two sessions) and Saturday. For more information, visit www.ha.com/3019.
CICF opens for dealer setup at 10 a.m Thursday, April 26, and to the public for professional preview viewing at 2 p.m. that day ($50 admission). General public attendance runs from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 29, and from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, April 29.
As usual, CICF will feature a lineup of club meetings and interesting speakers. Speakers and topics are still taking shape, but among the organizations holding meetings are the American Numismatic Society, Bermanian Guild of Numismatists, Everycountry Collectors Group, Ancient Coin Club of Chicago, Chicago Coin Club and International Primitive Money Society.
Krause Publications’ world coin editors and experts will be in attendance at CICF, including World Coin News executive editor Dave Harper and editor Maggie Pahl, Standard Catalog of World Coins market analyst Tom Michael and editor George Cuhaj, and NumisMaster editor Lisa Bellavin.
