A number of special events highlighted the Blue Ridge Numismatic Association 55th Annual Convention held at the Northwest Georgia Trade and Convention Center in Dalton, Ga., Aug. 15-17.
BRNA President Grant Campbell, other officers and governors provided many special events, meetings, and special guests for the public and coin dealers during the convention. The sold out bourse had over 350 tables.
Ron Blackman was presented the American Numismatic Association Presidential Award by ANA President Walter Ostromecki Jr.
Blackman received his award for his contributions and work for the BRNA over many years. The award is the fourth highest ANA award given.
Dalton Mayor David Pennington officially cut the ribbon to open the convention.
The ANA supported the convention by staffing an ANA Membership Table attended by Ostromecki, ANA Governor Mike Ellis and ANA District Representative for Alabama Richard Jozefiak. They attended a number of meetings, meet with ANA members, and meet with the general public attending the convention.
Ostromecki presented Bill Fivaz and Gayle Pike with the Numismatic Point of Light awards.
At 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, over 65 people attended the Young Numismatist Program by Gayle Pike. Every YN attending received many numismatic items. Items were donated by BRNA, coin dealers, and the ANA.
Special guest speakers at the event were President Abraham Lincoln (aka Dennis Boggs) and General Robert E. Lee (aka David Chaltas). They talked about their time and the events that the experienced.
