May is out and March is in as the preferred month for future spring American Numismatic Association National Money Shows starting in 2014, according to votes by the ANA board of governors Oct. 20 at the Fall National Money Show in Dallas.
Dates for the three-day event in 2014 were set for the week of Feb. 26-March 3 in Atlanta, while dates for the 2015 show in Portland, Ore., would fall during the week of March 2-9.
The board left unchanged the May 9-11, 2013, dates for the National Money Show in New Orleans.
Also approved was an operating budget of $5.8 million for the fiscal year beginning Nov. 1. The document envisions a $6,650 surplus during the 12-month period.
The largest single source of revenue will be generated by conventions, which includes fees paid by auction firms to hold the official auction. In this budget the projected convention revenue figure is $2.4 million.
On the expenditure side, the single largest line item is $1.7 million to cover salaries of the 32-member ANA staff. Employee benefits add another half million dollars to it.
Also during the meeting the board tabled a motion to donate $100,000 to the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of American History Gallery of Numismatic History.” More information will be sought.
According to Jeff Shevlin’s executive director report, the budget will fund an ANA presence at five major coin shows around the country next year.
