Q.With the discovery of a second type of reverse on the 2008-W silver Eagle collector coin, will you want both for your collection?

Will try to find or collect a couple samples of both types. Not sure if I have Type 1 or Type 2 at the present time. I?ve discovered that both sides of the coin have a whole different type font rather than just the different ?U.? The ?u? in ?In God We Trust? is also the same type face as on the reverse, so they are both of a different type font than the 2007.

I will collect both of them because the 2007 reverse variety is distinctive enough to be included. My decision was helped by the fact that I received one coin with the early reverse in my Mint order so I only need to add the cheaper version.

Normally I just receive one burnished ASE from the Mint?s subscription service but this year I went online and ordered an additional one. Much to my surprise after the announcement in NN online I checked and found I had received both from the Mint. Thank you.

I?ll get both types of 2008-W Eagles if the album manufacturers put a hole for both on the page. Just can?t stand an empty hole in a book.

I would not want to collect both as it would be collecting a ?Type 1? and a ?Type 2? which I feel would not be necessary.

Yes, I will want both sets of 2008-W. I have the reverse in NGC and now and the regular in NGC and PCGS. All I need is the PCGS in the reverse and I have a feeling they will cost me.

I was lucky. I got 15 with tail, 11 without and still have 17 at NGC getting graded and I don?t know what the number will be like. There will be too many of them. I think the hard one will be the tail.

I?m still trying to find a sharply struck 2008 regular issue. Every specimen I see is really weakly struck especially around the breastplate. I guess that?s what happens when you sacrifice quality for quantity. When I find an excellent piece for my collection, then I?ll probably purchase the W?s (both reverses) provided some sharply struck examples exist.

I just found your question about the two reverse types of 08-W silver eagles. I have just received my 08-W silver eagles back from NGC and 6 out of 10 are rev. of 07. I didn`t know about this until about 20 minutes ago, since I just got back to Missouri from the Chicago International Coin Fair, and was wondering if you could give me some more information about this coin. One guy on Ebay lists this as a Mint error, Is this true? Any information you could provide would be much appreciated, and I will collect both types. I really like your articles in Numismatic News by the way. Thanks and God Bless.
