Do you plan to share your coin collecting hobby with your family during the holidays?
Here are some answers sent from our e-newsletter readers to Editor Dave Harper.
For the past year, I have been preparing things to introduce coin collecting to my grandson. I hope to do this with him for at least 15 to 20 minutes per visit, until I can ascertain whether he will take an active interest in the hobby, or if I should put things on hold and let him approach me later on.
In the meantime, I’ll “conveniently” be looking through my collection when he comes into the house, in the hopes that he will want to get more involved. He has just turned 8 years old and is still into computer games. We shall see.

I’ll probably give a silver coin from Armenia to my brother-in-law.

Sharing is always a good thing. If items are displayed in pages or otherwise, it’s a good thing. Friends and family will enjoy this type of display while perhaps going down memory lane. Do this with the low end of ones collection to keep the temptation of some of it “vanishing” from the equation.

I bought my daughter a 2010 Republic of Togo large color prism 100 francs Green Humming Bird coin. It is very similar to the tattoo she has on her back. She has not showed any interest in coins before, but I thought she would like this coin.

No, I will not this holiday season. They already know what I have.

No, I will not be sharing my coin collection with my family. I have tried to do so in the past years, but no one seems to be interested.
I have given special coins to my grandchildren on special occasions, such as graduation.
I am in my 80s and now want to sell off my collection. I originally started my collection as an investment, but I feel it was a mistake.
Every time I have tried to sell any of my coins, they all low ball me on prices. I cannot even get what I have paid for them. I would say 80 percent of my coins have been bought from the U.S. Mint, and are proofs. I guess I will just have to keep trying.
