The question remains, however, why collectors are ordering an even amount of Philadelphia and Denver mintmarked 100-coin bags and $500 boxes, while the $250 box saw twice as many orders for the Philadelphia mintmark.

The 2012 Presidential $1 uncirculated set containing Philadelphia and Denver mintmarks, is off to a good start with 20,996 sets sold. That’s almost a third of the 2011 set total of 65,481.

Sales of the four-coin proof gold Eagle set rose by 27 to 18,146.
