Gold bullion coins are once again in high demand as the metal’s spot price fluctuated in mid-September. The United States Mint reports that between Sept. 9 and Sept. 16, Authorized Purchasers ordered 43,000 one-ounce, 4,000 half-ounce, 6,000 quarter-ounce and 60,000 tenth-ounce gold Eagles plus 8,000 gold Buffaloes for a total of 61,500 ounces of gold. Silver Eagle sales during that same time period amounted to 900,500 coins. In terms of total ounces sold, September is so far the third best month of gold bullion sales in 2015, surpassed only by August and July.
The 2015-W Jackie Kennedy First Spouse gold proof coin has broken the 10,000 coins sold barrier with 10,038 pieces ordered by Sept. 13.
Latest numbers for the 2015 uncirculated and proof sets show collectors ordered 427,494 14-coin clad proof sets, 259,240 14-coin silver proof sets and 220,854 28-coin uncirculated sets as of Sept. 13. All three are still available.
