Mint's Birthday Sets Kick Off 2020

While most of us are busy preparing for and perhaps already celebrating our December holidays, the Mint is readying its first products set to go on sale in the new year – and marking births and birthdays is the theme.

The first products available for collectors to purchase in 2020 are the Happy Birthday Coin Set, the Birth Set, and the Happy Birthday Currency Note. All three items go on sale at noon EST on Jan. 3. Details of each product follow.

Happy Birthday Coin Set: The Mint’s 2020 Happy Birthday Coin Set features the following proof coins: Kennedy half dollar, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve quarter from the America the Beautiful program, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel, and Lincoln cent.

The packaging is adorned with gift boxes and balloons. It includes the words “Happy Birthday!” and “2020 United States Mint Happy Birthday Coin Set.” The coins are encapsulated in the folder so both the obverse and reverse of each coin can be seen. There is also space for the giver to write a personal birthday greeting to the recipient. Price is $19.95.

Birth Set: The 2020 United States Mint Birth Set is meant to celebrate the arrival of a baby in 2020. It includes these proof coins, each bearing the “S” mintmark: Kennedy half dollar, National Park of American Samoa quarter, Roosevelt dime, Jefferson nickel and Lincoln cent.

The presentation folder includes space to provide a personalized message and a place for the baby’s vital statistics – the date and time of birth, length and weight. There is also a photo frame area to hold a 3- by 5-inch photo. This is the ninth year the Mint has issued the Birth Set. Price is $19.95.

Happy Birthday Currency Note: The Bureau of Engraving and Printing will issue the 2020 Happy Birthday Currency Note, featuring a $1 note with a serial number beginning with “2020.” The note is protected by a clear, acid-free polymer sleeve in a folder. Price is $5.95.
