The United States Mint announced Nov. 30 that silver Eagle bullion coin orders in 2015 are the highest ever since the coin began sales in 1986.

In an email sent out by Michael White of the Office of Corporate Communications, said purchases of the popular bullion coin remain on a record-setting pace.

"Today, the U.S. Mint broke the previous annual record of 44,006,000 ounces sold in 2014 with the current total now at 44,666,500 ounces sold," the email said. "In addition, the U.S. Mint will not take final orders for 2015 American Eagle Silver Bullion Coins until December 14. This week’s allocation is 920,500 ounces."

Silver Eagle sales in 2015 were helped by a falling silver price, prompting Authorized Purchasers to order plenty to fulfill demand on the precious metals market.
